This Easter we had so much time together as a family. We had the entire week before Easter off from school and only had to do a little preparation during the break. We filled the week with different types of activities. We had small projects to take care of.....cleaning under the bed, organizing closets, planting flowers, setting up the trampoline, coloring easter eggs, making easter decorations, baking, etc. It was satisfying to get some of those things done and fun to include Silas in a lot of it!
We also had plans with friends. On maunday thursday we had some friends over and had a easter egg hunt in the yard. The kids had a lot of fun and were very good at helping each other and sharing.
Friday we visited Søren's far and Hanne and took a walk to their church because they had a Easter story rug in their church. The rug was basically a telling of the Easter story in pictures starting with Palm Sunday. During the week we had been reading from the boys' Childrens Bible about Easter and it was amazing to see Silas recognize the stories from the pictures. Silas and I looked at the rug together as I explained why there was a picture of a hammer and nails, a crown (Silas calls it the ouchy crown), and a cross. Then something clicked in his head and he remembered that when we go to church there is a statue of Jesus on the cross, and he started talking about it. Then his eye caught a statue of Jesus on the cross at this church and he ran over to it and started telling the whole story. But we weren't quite done with the Easter rug yet, the best was yet to come! There was a long strip of the rug where there weren't any pictures and then pictures of flowers at the end, up at the alter. Silas and I took 3 big steps counting 1-2-3...then Jesus is alive! He loved that part. He proceded to go to the beginning of the rug and tell the whole story again, now to Søren. He did it a few times before we had to leave the church. Then on Easter morning he woke up and came running out to me in the living room....It's Easter Mommy...1-2-3 Jesus is Alive!! I had tears in my eyes, I was so happy. The real reason we had vacation....Jesus is Alive...that's what we celebrate!
Saturday and Sunday we were in Esbjerg at Søren's Mom's house with his sister and family too. We ate lots of good food, went to the playground, had an easter egg hunt, played with lots of Legos, and talked and talked. Happy Easter!

Silas has learned how to cut on the lines really well. He cut out every thing for that yellow chick except the hands! |
