Mini Vacation

 We enjoyed a very nice weekend at a vacation center the last weekend of August.  We know that August is really busy starting back to work and school, lots of parent meetings, etc, and that it is really good for us to get some quality time as a family.  So this year we rented a little vacation townhouse and had a nice long weekend at Landal center near Silkeborg.  Søren had a much deserved day off on Friday, so we let the kids have a short day at school and we were able to leave at 10am.  It was only about an hour drive, and we rented through Airbnb so we were able to check in as early as we wanted.

The weather was really nice so after lunch we took a walk around the grounds of the vacation center.  We played at all the playgrounds and got to see the indoor facilities...gym, play area and water park.  We had Zoey with and she really loved all the new places to explore.  Later in the day we went to the waterpark and the boys went down the waterslide about 100 times...I have to admit, Søren and I went on the slide lots of times too, it went really fast and was super fun! On the walk back to our townhouse it started pouring and we got completely drenched...so much for blowdrying my hair after swimming!  Luckily we could just change when we got back to the hosue, but our shoes were wet most of the weekend! After drying off, we had our friday pizza dinner at the townhouse and watched Disney and Alle mod 1, a fun danish quiz show that shows here friday nights.  It was a lovely day.

On Saturday, we spent the morning hiking in the woods and the hills in the surrounding area.  We had a bit of a rocky start, as Benjamin walked into some burning nettles with his bare legs and was in some pain.  After some time everyone was in a good mood and we loved watching Zoey have a great time in the woods. We came across lots and lots of blueberry bushes and we all enjoyed eating lots of them, Zoey too! That day we also played in the indoor play center, and Silas made up a fun game of not touching the ground, which him and I had a lot of fun with.  The kids also built lots of creations with some wooden blocks there.  Fun for all ages.  Then we took a walk down to the nearby lake, and ended the afternoon with another trip to the water park, where there was lots of sliding going on again.  Liam really got into diving under the water with his new swim goggles and started trying to swim in the deep end without his swim wings.  At 5pm the waterpark turned into a disco and there was a smoke machine, glitter beach balls and loud music playing lots of 90s hits.  It was fun! 

On Sunday, we were able to still do some fun things because #1 - our rental included cleaning and #2, because we didn't rent through the center, we didn't have to check out by 11am and could also stay as late as we wanted to! We took Zoey for a nice walk, and actually to a dog park nearby where she could run freely and she came right back to us everytime we called her!  And then of course, we went to the water park again!!  Again it was a success with lots of diving, sliding and ball throwing.  While Søren and Silas were packing up, Benjamin, Liam, Zoey and I went to one of the playgrounds again, and had a great time.  By 3pm we were ready to head back home and get ready for a new week.  Within 1 hour of being home we were unpacked, laundry was started and homework was done! So we enjoyed a quiet sunday evening at home.  All in all a fantastic weekend for all!!
