Silas is constantly saying funny things. Here are some of the ones that come to mind.
1) Silas loves to say the word "lækkert" (which means yummy...or can mean a women is "hot") The other day he took a drink of water, set the cup down and said "Aahh...LÆKKERT". Then at daycare a few days later when I picked him up, Margit our daycare provider told us that she was baking some rolls in the oven in the morning and Silas sniffed into the air and yelled "Margit, LÆKKERT!"...
2) We always talk to Silas in the morning about that he is soon going to go play at Margit's with his friends. We ask him, Do you think you and Samuel will play together today? and he starts shaking his head saying "no"...then on to the next one we ask "Marie?".."NO"...Emilie?..."NO"...Mathias?..."NO"...then we asked him Rune? (Margit's husband) and he answered "FUN!"
3) Silas and I were up early one morning playing in his room. I layed down on the floor and said "Mommy is tired Silas"...Silas then went to his bed, grabbed his blanket and put it on top of me. Then he said "Mommy sleepy"...and started in a singing voice "Sleep baby, sleep baby"...(The same song I sing to him at night)
4) Søren asked Silas while playing in his play kitchen..."Silas, can Far have something to drink?" and Silas answered "Nej"...Then I asked him "Silas, can Mommy have something to drink?" and Silas answered "No"
Plus many more! He sure makes us smile!

Romantic getaway
Søren and I just got home from our very first couple trip away from Silas. Farmor (Grandma) thought it would be fun to have Silas on “vacation” so we decided to take the opportunity to go on a little getaway. We looked into many different options before finally deciding on our final destination: Norway!
It was the perfect trip because we were only gone 48 hours, but had lots of fun just being “boyfriend/girlfriend” again.
We left Silas with Farmor on Monday at 1:30pm and drove north about 3 hours to get to the Oslo Ferry. We had some time to kill so we went to our favorite supermarket and bought some goodies for the boat ride. When we got on the boat around 6pm, we found our room and decided to look around the boat. We had dinner reservations at 18.30 and were hungry by the time we sat down. Luckily it was a buffet so we got our food quickly and enjoyed being able to eat at an adult pace, with no one or anything to make us rush. After dinner we checked out the rest of the boat and took a quick look at the little store onboard before going back to our room to play some cards. We fell asleep pretty early to the soft sounds of the boat motor.
The next day the boat docked at 7:30am so we were up around 6 to get ready for breakfast and pack for our day of skiing! When got off the ship, there was a bus waiting to bring us to a ski resport inthe area. It ended up being a 2 hours trip, but the scenery was beautiful as we got further and further from Oslo and higher up in the mountains.
We arrived at Norefjell Ski Resort at 9:45am, rented some skiis and hit the slopes. It was a beautiful morning about –9 degrees celsius and the sun was shining. Everthing was so gorgeous with the snow covered valleys and fjords. We had a great morning skiing before having a quick lunch to get some energy and warm up. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon trying out some of the runs we hadn’t tried yet, and even ended up on some black diamond runs. By 3:45 my feet were very cold so we decided to call it a day. The bus was leaving to go back to the boat at 4:45 so we just sat in the warming house drinking hot chocolate and playing games on our phone.
The warm bus ride back to the boat put us to sleep and we slept for at least an hour. On the boat ride home, we had reserved a spot at the spa on board and spent 2 hours relaxing in the hottub, sauna, steam room, warm water bath, and even a cold water tube. We ended up sitting on some heated chairs looking out the window as we left the Oslo Fjord with all the beautiful city lights. It was so relaxing and a perfect way to end a day on skiis!
In the morning we woke up and got of the boat to drive back to Silas. Throughout our 48 hours we had so much fun just taking life at our tempo, talking about deeper and not so deep subjects, and just getting to prioritize each other. It was an amazing 2 days!!

Friday Fun!
For the past year we have made it a weekly tradition to go to the Family Swimming hour in the neighboring town. The water is nice and warm, they have good facilities in the changing room for kids and it is quite cheap. We love getting away as a family after a long week and just having some quality time together. Often times we pick up a pizza on the way home and enjoy a nice relaxing evening. Silas loves to swim and cries most days when we have to leave. He is a good little swimmer and by only wearing swim wings he can swim pretty far. Some of his favorite activites are riding on the floaty car or playing with the watering can. He definitely doesn't mind getting water in his face and actually enjoys dunking under the water.

Hollywood Fantasy!
Last week we had 4 performances with the Show Choir I am in. This year the 2 hour show was called “Hollywood Fantasy” and was about a crazy film director, with wild ideas and how the cast and crew handled the situation. There were 18 songs in the show, with lots of different styles from Michael Jackson “Bad” to Simon and Garfunkel “Sound of Silence” and lots of things in between.
I played the part of a Russian cleaning woman who was in love with the director. I had 3 solo songs (Lady Marmelade from Moulin Rouge, The Show Must Go On by Queen, and My Heart Will Go On from Titanic). I was in 17 of the 18 songs, so I had a lot of dances and song lyrics to learn…not to mention a lot of costume changes. That meant a very busy January, but as it always does, it all came together at the end and turned out to be a great show.
There were quite a few friends in to see it, and I once again was reminded how much I love to be on stage!!! Søren was amazing throughout the whole process, encouraging me, letting me sleep in, and spending lots of alone time with Silas. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to perform and am now also grateful for a nice relaxing weekend.
Here are some pictures of the show.

Do you understand?
As earlier mentioned, Silas is talking A LOT! It is clear that he understands that there are 2 words for everything. He will often say 2 words about an object. For example, if he sees his bike he'll say "bike, cykel!"...or if I ask him to bring his cup to the table he says "table, bord" right after each other. We think it's pretty cool and a bit funny.
A great example is from last week. I was at Margit's house picking him up from daycare. I was talking to her about something and in the background I could hear Silas saying "tog..tog.."and pointing. Because I was in the middle of the conversation I didn't really respond to him, so after saying "tog" about 5 times he turned to me and said in a much louder voice "TRAIN!". Well, it worked, he got my attention. It was as if he was saying..."okay, you obviously don't understand 'tog', so you must understand.."TRAIN!"

Silas 19½ months
Here are some of the characteristics and tricks that Silas has right now. He continues to learn more and more words, and becomes easier to understand everyday. Although he is now able to tell us what he wants, he has also learned that getting a “no” is not very fun. Some days just the smallest no can really set him into a tantrum, while other days he can take things in stride. It provides challenges, but in general Silas brings us so much joy, and lots of laughter.
We can’t keep track of all the words Silas can say now. He identifies things on his own now, and still loves to repeat whatever we say. It seems that he just has to hear a word once or twice and it sticks. He also has begun to say the Danish and the English words for many things. He says them right after eachother like “ost-cheese”. So it is obvious he knows there are two words for everything. Silas has also started putting multiple words together…”Mommy, jacket…Far, pants.. A few times he put 3 words together. (He had his blanket in his hand and wanted to hop on his rubber cow, he said, “Blanket på cow” and later said “more thirsty, thank you”)
Some of the words I can think of are: Chair, blanket, garbage, truck, diaper, screwdriver & skruetrækker), water, brandbil (fire truck), carrots, ouch, foot/feet, cow/ko, ost/cheese, train/tog, fun/sjov.
For Christmas he got his own manger set from Grandma, for weeks he walked around with the baby Jesus figure saying “Jesus” and giving him kisses.
Silas has friends at daycare, we have a picture of all of them and he can say all their names when we point to them.
If I say, “who’s my funny boy”, Silas starts laughing in a funny way.
When we sit down at the table to eat, he folds his hands and says “synge” (sing). We usually sing a table prayer before eating, and one day he just started doing that, even though we never told him to fold his hands or anything.
As Silas has gotten taller, he can now reach the ground on his plastic tricycle and also on his balance bike…He thinks its fun to scoot around.
Another little game Silas likes is to play kitchen. He sets the table, pours drinks and pretends to eat. He says “try” and hen he wants us to try some food. (He also says try if he wants us to try swinging, or playing with one of his toys)
Dancing has become a lot of fun…he goes totally crazy!!
Do the moves to “If your happy and you know it”
We bought him a step stool that he can use to climb up on in the kitchen and bathroom. If he says “up” to us, we ask him to get his stool and many times he comes with it and steps up. He also uses it as a little table or to sit down a bit.
Lastly, Silas has his own little cave. He climbs into one section of our china cabinet and shuts the door. Then all of a sudden yells, “boo”!

Merry Christmas 2012
We’ve had a very enjoyable Christmas and vacation so far! It started around 8pm Friday evening when we said goodbye to our students with a little Christmas program. Søren, Silas and I enjoyed a relaxing weekend with little to do Saturday and Sunday. We had so much open time that we could spontaneously invite some friends over one day and go swimming another day.
Then Christmas Eve arrived and the adventures picked up. I played horn and sang at our church service at 11am. It has become a tradition that I sing O’ Holy Night as the opening song, and tradition held this year. We added a little gospel sounding ending this year, and I think it sounded really great. I was personally frustrated that my voice wasn’t completely at it’s best after completely losing my voice over 3 weeks ago. But with a lot of prayer, I was able to get through the whole thing, and even hit the high note at the end. In the recording a small kid glads and says YAY! in the rest right after the highnote and the Gospel ending. Cute!
After Silas’ nap we headed to Holstebro to be with Søren’s sister, Ulla, Peter, Lukas, Nikolaj and Celina, along with Søren’s Mom. We had some time to relax before eating, where we just watched some Christmas Disney programs and Silas played with Nikolaj’s new kitchen stuff making coffee for everyone.

We spent the night at Søren’s sisters’, and the next day Silas woke up at 6:45 even though he didn’t go to bed until after 9pm the night before. We had lots of time to play with his new toys before church and after church we had another great meal. After Silas’ nap, he got to open his final presents and then we headed home. Silas was so tired and pretty grouchy the whole day.
